Federal Palace Hotel

The Federal Palace Hotel is a 150 room hotel that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, located in the commercial hub of Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria.

History

The Federal Palace Hotel is a Sun International property. Sun International is probably best known for its Sun City Resort near Johannesburg and Pretoria in the North West Province.

Sun International traces its roots back to 1969, when the Southern Sun Hotel Company was created when South African Breweries and Sol Kerzner joined forces. When Nigeria gained its independence from Britain in 1960, it was in the main boardroom of the newly-contructed Federal Palace Hotel that Nigeria’s independence declaration was signed. This boardroom is now one of the main features of the hotel’s casino.

The Federal Palace Hotel is associated with the Heritage Environmental Programme which serves to recognise and identify environmentally responsible companies and products in Nigeria.
